This was a fun project that took me about three hours to build. My kids love watching the balls go around. It helps if you have mechanical aptitude. It may be very difficult if not impossible without it. The instructions are decent but there are times you need to be able to interpret the drawings/instructions. Pay close attention to the position and orientation if the pieces are not numbered identically. Those pieces have subtle differences and how they are assembled can make a difference to if it works well or not. One nice thing is there is no glue required. Which in my case was great since I need to take apart and reassemble both gears because once I sandwiched them together I couldn't see the numbers and oriented them backwards to the other pieces. Looking back changing the assembled order would have prevented the problem but that isn't how the instructions were laid out. You'll also see how some of the details for orientation are either hard to see or not there. Lastly know the screws for the battery box go beyond the material. I added rubber pads (not included) to elevate the puzzle thus preventing the screw from scratching our countertops. You may also notice I cut a box into a tray. That is because the balls sometimes fall out. The balls also sometimes jam the gears as they don't enter or exit as intended.

I gave it four stars because I really enjoyed building this and it is fun to watch, but it didn't earn five stars because of some design flaws and the instructions…

at first i was skeptical. i have bought many of these wood marble run sets from other suppliers and things didn't go well. some just don't work as advertised, while others may have worked, but a part broke while trying to get it out. this set is different. EVERY piece came out SO easy, and the instructions were easy to follow. AND at the end IT WORKED GREAT! I will look for more from this designer!

I've built several wooden models over the past few years, and this is my latest favorite. I really enjoy the motion machines, and had a model similar to this one, but with a crank handle. Now I can just sit back and be mesmerized by the motion! I did have to file down the inside pieces of the plasic wheel to keep the balls from occasionally hitting them and getting stuck, but now that it's working fine, it's just a treat to watch! I highly recommend it.
